Newzones is pleased to announce a solo exhibition of new photographs by Joshua Jensen-Nagle.
Joshua Jensen-Nagle's new series "Summer Seduction”, depicts bathers and sun worshipping beach goers in a soft, dreamlike state: a technique that he has mastered over his career. The works are colorful and bestow instant serenity upon the viewer. The artist describes his work as being inspired by the need to escape contemporary life; many of us struggle through the mundane day-to-day so that we eventually leave it behind for a few weeks and stare off ‘into the deep blue’.
The beach represents a place of tranquility even though crowded, hot and far away. For some, it acts as a meditation, soaking in the sun and salt. It is necessary to rejuvenate our minds and bodies with these rituals and this series explores such a practice. The photographs are created in a way that immediately upon viewing them, a memory is triggered. One is reminded of a particular time in life and the emotions and memories resurface. The mind returns to how it felt to ‘be away from it all’.
Jensen-Nagle has been featured in Photolife (2010), National Post (2010), Galleries West (2010), and Canadian House and Home (2009). His artwork has been collected world wide, including Cirque de Soleil, Ryerson University, First Energy Petroleum Ltd, Master Card International and Capo, Calgary. Jensen-Nagle also participated in Glenbow Museum’s exhibition “Through the Looking Glass” in 2008.
