The Fort Gallery’s 2019 juried photography exhibition contemplates our fascination with unex-pected and unintentional abstracts. Found or incidental drawings that occur because someone has made a mark on the sidewalk, a brush or roller cleaned on newspaper, a crab or snail leav-ing prints in the sand, and foot prints, human or animal, in mud or snow. These abstracts occur everywhere: on walls, sidewalks, roads, where someone has spilled or spattered paint or marked the surface to signify something; or in nature, where the passage of some creature has left a patterned trace.
Jurors reviewed 37 submitted pieces exploring this theme; 19 artworks were selected. The in-cluded artists are: Lori Bagneres, Linda Brown, Karen Christensen, Laura Clark, Deb DeJong, Kristin Krimmel, Myrna Pfeifer, Dawn Robirtis, Raeanne Schachter, Bob St. Cyr and Lyn Verra-Lay.
The Fort Gallery wishes to thank the Township of Langley for sponsorship of Traces.
