The Portage & District Arts Centre presents, 1000 Faces Hidden Within by local artist Lee Beaton. Lee has studied art under the guidance of several artists and is currently enrolled in the Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree Program at Brandon University.
Lee has participated in several group exhibitions at the Portage & District Arts Centre, Golden Prairie Arts Council, Pembina Hills Arts Council, Tiger Hills Arts Association, The Piano Nobile Gallery at the Centennial Concert Hall and at Cre8ery Gallery & Studio in both the main gallery and auxiliary gallery. She is an active member of the Prairie Ripples Art Tour. She teaches a basic acrylic class, watercolour class, fundamentals of drawing class as well as palette knife techniques workshop and paint nights at PDAC.
Lee was selected to participate in the 2014 RAMP Central mentorship program with Barb Flemington. It was during Barb’s visit to Lee’s studio that she was encouraged to create a solo exhibit that featured portraiture.
1000 Faces Hidden Within will feature various portraits that Lee Beaton created using watercolour, pastels and pencil. Some of the pieces incorporate parts of old and new drawings merged together. This mix of old and new is a process that has allowed her to experiment and creatively present her art in a different way. Many of the portraits in this exhibit are loosely created in the hopes of capturing beauty and invoking emotions. Lee has created a large-scale mixed media piece titled Hidden Within. She will also include an installation component to the exhibit using some of her watercolour portraits and mixed media.
