Every Thanksgiving weekend, Gabriola Island becomes B.C.’s best destination. This is due to the 81 Gabriolan artists opening 65 studio doors to visitors from around the world. With 16 new artists on the tour this year, the 21st Annual Thanksgiving Studio Tour on the “Isle of the Arts” will be one not to miss.

The studios will be open 10am to 5pm on October 7-9, 2016.

Gabriola’s annual Studio Tour has been a huge success since its inception. And why might this be? For one, Gabriola Island has the sixth highest concentration of artists in the workforce in Canada (Hill Strategies Report, 2011). Gabriola Island is also full of inspiring natural and artistic wonders. The people and businesses on this island work together to make it a satisfying and culturally rich place to live or visit. Every year more and more artists move to the Isle of the Arts, continuing to make Gabriola Island as vibrant and creative as ever!

From art for your wall to art for your hand, the Gabriola Studio Tour includes artists working in many media: ceramics, glass, photography, acrylics, watercolour, silversmithing, jewellery, illustration, basketry, leatherwork, sculpture, mixed media, textiles, wood and more—there’s something for everyone! You’re bound to fall in love with a piece of art to take home. At many of the studios, the artists will be at work demonstrating their technique, whether that be glassblowing, painting, tie-dye, felting, mosaics, silversmithing, ceramics and more.

Over the years, the Gabriola Thanksgiving Studio Tour has gained hundreds of loyal followers and is a magnet for art lovers from all over. Many visitors return year after year to see what new works their favourite artists have created.
