About the Artist…
Laura Bachynski wears many hats with grace and talent. Wife, mom, grandma, singer/songwriter, and children’s book illustrator are among the many, but her favourite has been visual artist, worn for over 3 decades. Her mother notes “I put a pencil in her hand when she was one and she never looked back.” This exhibition marks a special moment in her journey as she unveils her very first solo gallery show, aptly titled Ways to Get There.
Laura studied art at the University of Windsor and always tended to gravitate to the realism painters. She taught art for many years at various schools throughout Alberta and has completed many commissioned works that hang in private collections in Canada, Mexico, and the U.K. Her medium is mainly focused in acrylic and watercolour.
Laura invites us into a world where nostalgia meets imagination. Through a series of paintings and photographs, she captures the essence of old cars, trucks, bikes, boats, and more—each piece a testament to her keen eye for detail and her deep appreciation for the stories these vehicles carry. Laura’s art not only captures the physical forms of these vehicles but also their spirit—their resilience, their adventures, and their enduring charm.
When asked about this series “Ways to Get There”…Laura shares “I have always been attracted to old looking vehicles. Something about the way they seem to sit regally in discarded locations despite their peeling paint (revealing many colours), bent rims, and broken windows seems so beautiful to me. Like noticing an old stranger I wonder, ‘What is your story? How did you become this way?’ I want to immortalize them and especially capture their beauty in their current habitats.”
