For the 2021 Capture Photography Festival, Equinox Gallery is pleased to present Studio Portraits, an exhibition of new work by artist Adad Hannah.
The photographs and video works in this exhibition bring together performance, portraiture, optical illusion and still life, drawing on the staging techniques of early portrait photography while referencing the ways in which mirrors have been employed throughout art history. From Diego Velázquez's Las Meninas, to the trades portraits of August Sanders to the armatures of selfie sticks, the works in this exhibition reference historical and contemporary art-making practices while exploring the complex relationship between viewer and subject.
