How can a Fibre Tree, a Glass Cage, a Ceramic Caterpillar, a Self-Portrait change the way we view the world? 18 Calgary emerging artists tackle what is becoming a most urgent question in a new show at Christine Klassen Gallery.
After Breaking, Building Up investigates our relationship with the world around us; our relationship with people, animals, nature, and “things”. What do these relationships say about us, about the future of our planet? The rampant consumerism of the fashion industry, the cruelty against animals, the othering of others in our communities simply can't continue.
These eighteen emerging artists will engage you, the viewer, by bringing you into their world, and challenge your relationship with people, animals, plants and objects. This group of new talent represents the disciplines of sculpture, glass, ceramics, painting, drawing, graphic design, fibre, and jewelry and are in their final year at the Alberta University of the Arts. Let’s unite in art and establish new narratives together!
