Andrew Hellmund, 2017
Opening April 18, 2017: 6:30 - 9:30 pm
Common Sense is pleased to present "New Works", an exhibition of recent art by current University of Alberta sculpture instructor Andrew Hellmund. This exhibition will be on view from April 18 - May 2, by appointment or by chance.
"This exhibition highlights many of the differing kinds of work in steel in my practice. This show encompasses works started since 2014, and includes several pieces exploring new formats and scale.
In my last solo exhibition, Poetic Space, for my MFA thesis this past June, my work focused on expressing movement as influenced by Lindy Hop, Jazz, Cubism and the Modernist sculptors of the 1970s.This exhibit includes several pieces from that body of work, new responses to dance and movement as well as works that are responding to new formats. Up to this point I have focused predominantly on line drawing in space and vertical, denser abstracts influenced by the works of sculptors Peter Hide, Sir Anthony Caro and David Smith."
