In her upcoming exhibition, Biophilia, artist and recent Emily Carr MFA graduate April Matisz dwells on possibilities that erupt through contemplation of our natural world. Matisz’s nature-scape paintings are full of forms, colour, and textures that imagine lush ecosystems and provoke reflection on the relationships found within the natural environment. Central to her paintings is the curiosity and wonder of the structures, mechanisms and inhabitants that comprise our planet. Situating humans as participants in the natural environment, Matisz’s paintings invite a renewed awareness towards our world.
