Irma Soltonovich
As an artist, I must learn to conquer not just new territory and new techniques but also myself. I remind myself to be a warrior, persistent without any whining. The pandemic seems to have evaporated entire categories of friendship and depleted the joys that make up everyday life - and buoy the creative spirit. I present this new body of work as my quiet response living in in these “new corridors.” It is also a tribute to my hardy Scot ancestors especially Ewen MacDonald who survived Glencoe.
Socair is from the Scottish Gaelic: comfort, calm, ease. While I love my surname “Soltonovich” it is from my ex. Most all of my ancestors are from Scotland (MacDonald, Maclean, McGraw, Gardener, Stewart, etc). The one non Scot, a Brazier, came as a foot soldier from Normandy in 1066.
Lynn Harnish
Lynn is a self-taught artist that started her creative journey on the prairies in central Canada. Focusing on interior design for many years, she and her family moved to Vancouver Island in the mid 90’s. She continued with design but always had a dream to paint full time. Lynn discovered encaustic painting and fell in love with this medium. It is the oldest form of painting dating back thousands of years, yet most people have never experienced its dream-like qualities. Pigments are suspended in over 20 layers of melted beeswax and resin, fusing each layer with the next. Lynn decided to leave her design business and put all her energy into creating one of a kind encaustic works. Lynn has her studio on her property where she resides with her husband Richard, surrounded by nature that still continues to inspire her.
Bev Ellis
Bev's muse is nature, where beauty is found in brokenness. Burned out trees, and layers of peeling bark, bear a common thread of beautiful imperfection. Her sculptural and 2D art embraces the raw and flawed. She enjoys creating highly textured surfaces. Artistry and technique inform the intuitive processes of her multidisciplinary art practice. Bev has had opportunities to exhibit her work throughout the Province, across Canada, and the US. Her artwork is in corporate and private collections around the world.
Brenda Walker
We just received a new batch of "Chicka dee dee's" by Brenda Walker. These sweet little whimsical pieces are a staff favorite!
