The Burnaby Art Gallery (BAG) is pleased to introduce two new offsite exhibitions at Burnaby Public Libraries the week of September 18. At Bob Prittie Library, Toronto artist Alicia Nauta explores themes of environmental degradation, the crumbling of civilization, abstracted and psychedelic reality, domestic space, and human belonging in a series of prints selected by the artist. At McGill Library, Hot Wheels is an exhibition drawn entirely from the City of Burnaby Permanent Art Collection featuring artworks
Alicia Nauta: Two nostalgias face each other like mirrors

Alicia Nauta’s work is part of Alicia’s Klassic Kool Shoppe - her practice which involves collage, screenprinting, installation, wallpaper, books and zines, and a growing collection of found oddities for a future museum. Her work has been exhibited at Printed Matter (US), Kogenchecho (JP), the AGO, Katherine Mulherin, Artscape Youngplace, and Art Metropole, as well as permanent wallpaper installations in Toronto. Work by Alicia is included in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art Library and the New York Public Library.

Hot Wheels: Depictions of Cars from the Collection

his exhibition, drawn entirely from the City of Burnaby Permanent Art Collection, features artworks depicting cars in various media. Glen Howarth’s Ghost Car is one of the few paintings that are part of the collection. The other works are all print media ranging from Barry Kootchin’s linocut to works by Julie MacIntyre. Julie’s prints, part of a larger series entitled Travel Stories, are comprised of 16 layers of lithography, one layer of relief print, another of Xerox transfer and a “flat” monotype glaze.With the exception of John Ward, all of the artists in this show have a connection to British Columbia. Petra Mueller’s lithograph was made at the Malaspina Printshop; Steve Nelson’s at Prior Editions with master lithographer Torrie Groening. James Mah’s Rush Hour was made at his Burnaby home studio.Hot Wheels will be on display at McGill Library from September 19-November 27, 2017.
The Burnaby Art Gallery’s Offsite Exhibition Series showcases artwork from local, emerging artists as well as nationally-known, established artists in the spaces of Burnaby’s Public Libraries.
