Carolyn Gerk, “La Llorona,” 2022
linocut print with watercolour, 13 x 17 inches (courtesy of the artist)
Opening Reception, January 3, 2025, 6pm – 8pm
Otherhood, features the linocut relief print art of Treaty 8, Peace Region artist Carolyn Gerk. Many of the nineteen relief works are printed on handmade paper, often scattered with bits of leaves and string. Each piece depicts an interpretation of a monstrous woman who has appeared in legends, folklore, and literature. What is it about the feminine form that appears so frightening? Is she only a monster, or is she something more when we look closer? This exhibition was curated by Jamie-Lee Cormier from the Art Gallery of Grande Prairie, for Alberta Foundation of the Arts, Traveling Exhibition Program (TREX).
Please note, Viewpoint Gallery will be open December 23-24, 8am – 4:30pm, and reopen January 2nd at 8am
