Charles Lewton-Brain's work is concerned with nature, structure and drawing. His jewellery and research into compositional systems for metal working has been published internationally. He invented and disseminated foldforming, a system of working sheet metal new to the field.
In this body of work, Holding Rocks (Cage Series), Charles Lewton-Brain uses Albertan and Bow Valley river pebbles and rocks and then surrounds them with welded steel electroformed copper and gold. This work speaks to human attempts to control and possess nature, while making the pebble, the natural precious, elevating it, magnifying its importance.
These are not wearable, they are objects to fondle, to contemplate, to wonder at.
Their scale is intimate; handheld.
