When Jocelyn Reid was approached to present an exhibition of her porcelain sculptures at VIVIANEART, the young Calgary based artist proposed a two-artist show. The consideration of who that may be was brief. Reid knew immediately she wanted to show with artist Clint Neufeld. As it turns out, Reid has so idolized his art practice that only a few years ago she spent a week sleeping in her car in order to attend a workshop he was leading at Medalta in the historic clay district of Medicine Hat, Alberta.
For both of these artists, their choice of material has an intriguing relationship with the objects they re-create. Porcelain and fine ceramics garner associations with luxury, delicacy and decoration but for these artists they have become vehicles to transform objects that would not, in their original form, garner similar adjectives.
