Colonization of the West

The migration and settlement of the English in North America in the 17th to19th centuries was marked by noticeable shifts in power, the discovery of important resources, and the struggle for survival in a harsh climate. These elements, and the series of events they led to, left a lasting impression on our landscape and its peoples. Artists were present throughout the building of our nation, and for that reason we have documentations and creative renderings of each stage of our history. This exhibition will highlight breathtaking examples of moments caught by the brush of John Innes, William Armstrong, Robert Whale, James Henderson, and Thomas Mower Martin, among others.
