William S. Burroughs – The Cut-Up Method of Brion Gysin
Edmonton artist Blair Brennan explores the “cut-up” method of Brion Gysin and William S. Burroughs. Brennan has long been fascinated by this aleatory technique (a sort of literary collage) and has employed it frequently in his own text-based artworks.
The object of this hands-on workshop is to sensitize participants to the potential of text in art works and to do so by showing how easy it is to create hybrid art works (called Cut-Ups or Cut-Up Poetry) that are both visual and textual.
Supplies are simple and included in the course cost, the tools of the real cut and paste – magazines, scissors and glue sticks. Supply your own source material as well if you desire.
October 7, 2017 from 12 pm – 5 pmCourse cost: $30 Members, $40 non Members
This workshop will occure in our Art Education classroom in our Annex building
