Debbie Wozniak-Bonk presents her latest solo exhibition, Prairietales. What inspired me for `Prairietales’ is to make a series of work that reflects my love of the prairie landscape by capturing its beauty, mystery and symbolism. Through the years as an artist I have studied, documented and painted the family farm that I grew up on and its surrounding communities. I have noticed the changes through the passage of time. I am visually struck by the starkness of the open prairie, the cutting lines of the roads and railway tracks, the mysterious abandoned buildings, the stoic wooden elevators and the beautiful tufts of poplar trees. All this imagery fuels my imagination. These real things painted as symbols, all of them pointing to the past, to the passage of time and thus to the passing of traditions. I admire the resilience of the prairies, the people and the pioneer spirit. Each painting is a little nod to our past and is a celebration of rural life.
