"In my experience, God and Magic are usually in the realm of surprises and so there are elements in each piece that play on the edge of their own context. Reference to representation anchors them to everyday life but, metaphorically, each in the series strives to express an exceptional observation. Thank you for your attention. Dirk van Wyk, a practicing artist in multiple media since 1970, has taught drawing, visual communication, painting, bookbinding and a number of related material at university level for many years.  Freelance and commissioned work includes labels for Big Rock Breweries, portraits, murals and decorative work on furniture.  With both a BA and an MA in Fine Art (Drawing) from U of C, he also taught in the United Arab Emirates for 8 years at the American University of Sharjah.  He is a member of the Alberta Craft Council and the New Calgary Rug and Textile Club and is actively involved with CBBAG (Canadian Bookbinders and Book Artists Guild).
