Ellen Bang 3D: Her small sculptural works address the precarious nature of human life in a city. They are made from hand-felted wool in combination with materials related to architectural structures. Felt is a rather stable, yet fragile, material and it can be understood as a symbolic representation of human existence. At the same time wool also affords comfort and warmth, and thus takes on a double symbolic meaning. Ellen is a Danish artist who graduated from Emily Carr University.
Stephen Dittberner 2D: Inspired by the rushing clean water in his natural surroundings of Lynn Canyon and Capilano River, Stephen has created a serene and colourful series of oil paintings. He projects his own reference photograph onto his canvas and draws using pencil or coloured pencils. Experimenting constantly, as to how predominate the drawing is, as to how much gets covered with paint. Using acrylics or thinned out oils, he builds on layers becoming more opaque as it progresses. Stephen had a career as a commercial illustrator for over 30 years, always dabbling in painting. Recently he has made the leap to full-time painter.
