Guy Hollington, "Vines," 2022
handblown glass and sandblasted design, 12" x 8.5" x 3"
Guy Hollington began his career in glass almost by chance; an offhand comment led to an introductory six-week course that then morphed into a passion for the blown glass medium. Further study at both the Corning Museum of Glass and the Pilchuk School of Glass provided insight into more of the intricacies of glass blowing and further refinement of his technique.
‘Vines in an excellent example of Guy’s fine sandblasting work.
Pieces of the resist material are hand cut and placed on the glass in locations required to obtain the end pattern. Each small piece of resist is used to block the sand from the sandblaster. The patterning process requires several days to get each of the pieces cut and placed correctly. When the pattern is complete the piece is carefully sandblasted to permanently etch the pattern into the glass and to create relief between the protected and the blasted surfaces.
