The Red Deer Arts Council is pleased to present Prairie Circus Series: Figurative Works by Dawn Saunders-Dahl in the Kiwanis Gallery for August 25 to October 18, 2015.
Storytelling through her art is what fuels Dawn Saunders Dahl to paint fantastical imagery alive with visually dynamic narratives using pop culture images, dreamy landscapes and evocative moods. In this new series of work which focuses on portraits of people wearing masks, Dawn, an Edmonton artist, explores the realm of the circus and some of the nostalgia associated with being part of the circus event and environment.
This series incorporates fantastical imagery, visually dynamic narratives, heightened by
composition and drawing, interlaced with dreamy landscapes and fueled by the influence of
abstract expressionism. Using this visual foundation to evoke moods and memories, a
playground of nostalgia and personal revelations is created.
