West End Gallery presents “This Urban Life,” a solo exhibition of 15 new acrylic paintings by Fraser Brinsmead, featuring scenes of Edmonton, Paris, New York, and Hawaii. Born in the small community of Lac la Biche, Alberta, Fraser moved to Edmonton in 1956. His first glimpse of "the big city" affected him quite deeply. By retaining these feelings of awe, his passion for art and music generated an architectural career spanning over three decades. Described as "frozen music" and "bringing form into the light," architecture has had a clear influence on his artistic style.
Light, form, and harmony build the foundation of his paintings, where the incredible richness and vitality of the city come to life - with people oblivious to being watched - people who play, work, and live in an urban context. They are familiar scenes into which the viewer may feel compelled to join in, hear the sounds, feel the crowd, breathe the smells, and experience the light. Many works hint at a deeper story, enticing the viewer to elaborate, reflecting on the complexity and themes of modern living. Meet the artist and join us for a special preview Thursday, April 7, from 5-8pm and Saturday, April 9, from 1-4pm for the opening reception. Fraser Brinsmead’s exhibition continues through April 21. All artwork is subject to presale. Please direct inquires to our Edmonton gallery location at 780-488-4892 or by email to art@westendgalleryltd.com
