The Art Gallery of St. Albert (part of the Arts and Heritage Foundation) is launching its newest exhibition in the beautiful main gallery space. Guilded – Gobsmacked strives to surprise and delight.
Featuring over 50 local and regional artists, this treasured biannual community exhibition leans into the unexpected for 2024. The artists hail from five local art guilds - St. Albert’s Potters Guild, Painters Guild, Floral Art Society, Quilters’ Guild and Paper Arts Guild. Vibrant and enthusiastic, their work celebrates the joy of creativity, delving into the artists’ passions.
Nature has been an endless source of inspiration for these Guilded artists. From the vastness of Alberta’s skies to the beauty found in the smallest flowers and insects, they share the awe found in the world around them.
“For many artists, the materials of their craft provide endless opportunity’, says Emily Baker, Art Gallery of St. Albert Curator. Paints and brushes transform the canvas into an explosion of sensations and memories. Paper is woven and dyed, then crafted into objects of wonder. A quilt, hand stitched over several years is a riot of flowers. Clay is formed and carved into intricate sculptures – from a delicate birdcage to towering pillars.
“Bold and unabashed, this exhibition brings a bright light and many passionate voices. Join us to celebrate the incredible art and artists at the heart of our community,” Baker adds.
