Peter Aspell, "Paradiso,"
oil on canvas, 58" x 71"
Opening Reception: Saturday, December 14th, 2 - 4 pm.
Gallery Jones is pleased to present Homage, a tribute to some of the most influential artists of the last century, both locally and internationally.
The exhibition spotlights modernist painter Peter Aspell (1918 - 2004), whose powerful and enigmatic imagery continues to provoke and influence the Vancouver art scene. Born on Christmas Day, 1918, Aspell developed his own expressionistic style of painting over the course of his career, with which he explored surreal and iconic subjects through an evocative use of colour. His work has been collected widely by personal and public collectors including the National Gallery of Canada, the Vancouver Art Gallery, the Hamilton Art Gallery, the Kelowna Art Gallery, the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria.
HOMAGE also presents work by Bernard Cathelin, Lynn Chadwick, Henry Moore, Sorel Etrog, Robert Rauschenberg, Victor Vasarely, Otto Rogers, Antoniucci Volti, Enn Erisalu, Gary Pearson and Allessandro Papetti.
