Every fall, new shipments of serpentine and marble arrive in Kinngait from the nearby quarries, providing artists with fresh material. This influx brings a renewed sense of creativity, allowing artists to sculpt significant new works and replenish their materials before the challenges of winter set in.
We're excited to introduce a stunning selection of newly acquired contemporary Inuit sculptures, showcasing the latest artistry of Kinngait and beyond. Many of these works were completed this fall and feature stone recently sourced from southern Baffin Island.
Among these standout pieces are Paul Malliki's dynamic Kayaker, complete with avataq and harpoons, Toonoo Sharky's striking white marble Owl, an awe-inspiring 21" tall sculpture with wings dramatically raised overhead, and three works by Esa Kripanek that feature his unique style of etching images on the surface of his carvings. The grouping also includes a phenomenal Muskox by Lucassie Ikkidluak, exemplifying the finest in contemporary Inuit art.
All of the sculptures are available to view online or in the gallery now—don’t miss the opportunity to experience these remarkable new works.
