The Alternator Centre for Contemporary Art is pleased to present the next instalment of the Intermission Series Fem(i)nist, an exhibition showcasing the work of 12 artists provoked by feminism, female empowerment and sexuality. Fem(i)nist, examines our perceptions of the female gaze, suffrage and the rights women posses over their own bodies.
The female form has a long history as subject matter for artists, the vast majority of them being male. In Fem(i)nist, the role of the muse is reversed. The 12 female artists express themselves through their own eyes, acting as both artist and inspiration.
The exhibition explores the female form and the subject matter of female oppression through a wide variety of mediums including sculpture, drawing, printmaking, photography and painting. Participating artists include Sarah Polak, Haley Kennedy, Patricia Leinemann, Alexa Harwood-Jones, Emilie Tourangeau, Emily O'Connor, Emerald Holt, Megan Byers, Kayti Barkved, Melanie Greenley, Erin Scott and Arlene Hassan.
