Zane Wilcox is a Regina-based artist who holds a MFA from the University of Regina and a BMus from the University of British Columbia. His materially rich clay sculptures are inspired by architecture, machinery, ancient stone structures and the prairie landscape, and have been exhibited across Canada and in the United States and Australia.
Known for his minimalist take on the vessel form, closer inspection reveals a perceptual playground in the normally empty interior space, which Wilcox activates using unexpected planes, textures and angles. For his latest series, Stripes and Grids, he turns his attention to the outside, borrowing logic from agricultural field-work to create repeating patterns of parallel lines and right angles to activate the exterior “plains” of his sculptures.
