Born and raised in Ontario, Janet moved to British Columbia to attend university where she earned a Bachelor of Education. She has been an art educator in many settings and has been consistently creating paintings since 2001.
"Growing up in the suburbs of Ontario I never dreamed that being an artist was in my future. Or that flowers would become so important to me.
Marigolds were my town’s flower of choice, and they never appealed.
Though I studied art in university it was always with the aim of teaching, not self expression. It wasn’t until my first child was born that I began to realize how integral creating was to my mental health and overall wellness. It took many more years before I felt confident in calling myself an artist.
How I have wished that someone would walk into my studio (which has usually meant my laundry room) and say to me “you are an artist.” But that’s never happened. Instead I have slowly walked forward, making as I went, trying to let go of the need for validation and grab the calling to simply create beauty for the world to enjoy. To paint because this is what I’ve been made to do, and this is what brings joy to my life.
My hope is that this joy is infused in my works; that this hunger for beauty and wonder at creation sings from my canvases."
Her works are held in local, national and international private collections.
