KAREN KRAVEN ARTIST TALK | 08 NOVEMBER AT 7 PM
PLATFORM is excited to announce an artist talk by Karen Kraven on Friday 08 November, 2019 - 7 PM at PLATFORM.
Kraven will be speaking about her diverse and exciting practice that interweaves images and sculptures into installations. Her work explores the body and optical illusion, clothing and instances of camouflage and doubling. This lecture introduces the artist and her work to Winnipeg in advance of her June 2020 exhibition at PLATFORM.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Karen Kraven is a Montreal-based artist working with photography, sculpture and installation. Informed by fashion, labour and optical illusion, her work investigates the ways clothing registers the body; how it is fragmented, unstable and under interrogation. Her work with textiles and clothing is influenced by her father's (and his father's) knitting factory that stopped manufacturing the year she was born.
Recent solo exhibitions include Dust Against Dust at Parisian Laundry (Montreal, QC), Pins & Needles at the Toronto Sculpture Garden, the Darling Foundry (Montreal, QC); at 8-11 (Toronto, ON); at Mercer Union (Toronto, ON); and at The Institute of Contemporary Art (Portland, ME). Her work has also been shown at NADA House (Governors Island, NYC); MKG127 (Toronto, ON); The Embassy of the Czech Republic (Ottawa, ON); La Friche la Belle de Mai (Marseille, FR); The Power Plant (Toronto, ON); Clint Roenisch Gallery (Toronto, ON); and the Leonard & Ellen Bina Gallery (Montreal, QC). Kraven is currently an artist-in-residence at Concordia University and she is represented by Parisian Laundry.
