Kinngait Calling
From the wealth of talent present in Kinngait (formerly known as Cape Dorset), the Inuit Gallery of Vancouver is proud to highlight the work of four remarkable artists. This month we've brought together the distinctive work of established artists Ningeosiaq Ashoona, Johnnysa Mathewsie, Pitseolak Qimirpik and emerging artist Mathew Flaherty. All of these carvers are at highly productive points in their careers and have great futures ahead of them.
The collection ranges from traditional representations such as whales, geese, loons and a wolf, to unique, even somewhat mischievous works such as Johnnysa's serpentine rotary phone, and Pitseolak's dinosaur or his woman washing dishes. Kinngait Calling provides a snapshot of the diverse artistic creativity to be found in Kinngait today.
All works are available immediately.
