Grids have existed intuitively since the earliest days of man’s drawing and writing. Even future generations will be using some kind of a grid system. Today, without grids, our lives would be without boundaries ....untidy, unclear, and our world a more chaotic place to live in.
Using the grid structure is a matter of organizing information into the space allocated for it. The most important principle in using any grid system is to establish consistency, unity and order.
My abstract compositions are based on geometrical forms: lines, squares, or elements that are an intrinsic and essential part of our lives. The vertical or horizontal lines, whether they are visible or invisible, help to determine and define the composition of the paintings.
Marcela Salazar:
I am a Chilean-born Canadian artist who studied Graphic Arts in Chile. I moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba, and I graduated from the Advertising Art Program at Red River College.
Since I was young, I was interested in art. When I was a teenager, I started to create small sculptures with clay and I used oil paints with mixed media. I explored acrylic painting after working in the graphic arts industry. My background in graphic design has had a great influence on my paintings.
Through the years I have taken several courses to learn new techniques. I have also explored printmaking, specifically monoprint, which has allowed me to work with different materials. Most of my paintings are abstract and are created with the use of acrylics, oils, and mixed media.
