Newzones is proud to present Both Ends of the Spectrum, a solo exhibition by Marie Lannoo.
Moving between abstraction and representation, Lannoo’s paintings exert a potent physiological effect on those who stand in front of them. Made up of many fluid layers, these simmering surfaces subtly shift in colour and texture as you move around them. Lannoo’s works are, in essence, richly coloured mirrors composed of paint that aptly question the manner in which the human presence can be added into a painting. Lannoo’s multi-layered works play with both the perception of painting as much as they challenge conventional notions of representation.
In her new exhibition, Lannoo questions and explores the physics of light, specifically that which enables the perception of color. This investigative exhibition enacts with this phenomena through the high gloss acrylic mediums to push the raw, sensory experience of pure color. As Lannoo states: “Light, dark. Visible, invisible. Head, heart.”
Lannoo represented Canada and Saskatchewan in China at the Tao Hua Tan International Artist Retreat in 2018. She has been a guest speaker at both arts and scientific conferences and continues to mentor emerging artists through organized programs and independently.
