MITCH KERN: Conundrums

A native of New York City and long-time resident of Los Angeles, Mitch Kern is a photographer who produces portraits that explore the beauty and sadness of the human condition. Born in 1965 and raised in New York City, he moved as a teenager to Los Angeles with his family in the 1970s. His career as a photographer began at the age of 15 when he set up a darkroom in his suburban San Fernando Valley home.
Mitch Kern is a commercial, editorial and fine art photographer with thirty plus years of industry experience working for national magazines, ad agencies, wire services and art galleries. Mitch has an extensive publication record, client list, and has been featured in 75+ exhibitions including over a dozen solo shows. He has an MFA in photography from Penn State University and a bachelor’s from the University of Maryland. He has taught photography at Louisiana Tech, Central Missouri State and Penn State Universities, and he is currently an associate professor in the AUArts School of Communication Design.
Conundrums, set in an absurd, fictionized environment based upon life in southern Alberta, this body of work poses questions about land and property ownership in the 21st century. In a world where man and beast are conflated with nature and culture, there are no easy answers, only conundrums.
