Opening Reception: Wednesday, September 20, 6–8 p.m.
Reflecting on Home seeks to honour the history of the land upon which the Ferry Building Gallery stands – the ancestral and unceded territories of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation), səl̓ílwətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh Nation), and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam Nation) who have safeguarded these lands since time immemorial. All participating artists will delve into their individual interpretations of home.
This exhibition has been in development since 2019. Its initial concept emerged from consultations with Melanie Rivers/Tiyaltiwet and Janey Chang. Due to the pandemic and ongoing renovation of the Ferry Building Gallery, the exhibition remained pending for far too long. Our heartfelt gratitude extends to Jonas Jones, whom we received additional input and guidance from, as well as to all who have played a part in bringing this exhibition to fruition.
Thank you to The West Vancouver Foundation for supporting this exhibition and its associated programming.
Working with Heart, Storytelling, and Art Workshop: Sunday, October 1, 2–4 p.m. (more information on our website)
