Ciara Kuurne, "Fort Gallery First Thursday," 2017
On the first Thursday of each month, The Fort Gallery hosts a variety of visual artists, writers and poets, and musicians from the local community who share their gifts and creations. On October 5th, we are pleased to welcome musician Ciara Kuurne.
Ciara is constantly opening her eyes and mind to an ever growing vortex of gathering. Her creative processes explore multi medium inspiration, time, space, and the tangible and the intangible. She fully committed her life to music at the age of 12 and it became an entity and companion to her. She is making a journey of discovery with her sound and style, and describes this process as preparing colours and honing in on the painting she wants to take her listeners’ ears into. Low register vocals with a dash of rasp, acoustic and crunchy, muddy, loose tones of rock, folk, pop, and singer songwriter vibes, may give a subtle idea of her sound; but it’s the way she is one with her words, melodies, and guitar that give meaning to the performance.
Also featured at this month’s First Thursday are many artists from this year’s Open Studio exhibit, running September 20-October 8 at The Fort Gallery. The Open Studio program began in order to provide a nurturing environment for emerging artists.
This month’s First Thursday is being held in conjunction with Art Wine & Cheese, another free art event hosted by ReMax Little Oak Realty in Fort Langley on Oct 5th, 4-6pm. This month, their office is displaying pieces by local artist Ray Ophoff. Art enthusiasts are invited to attend both events with time for a quick dinner in between.
The Fort Gallery thanks the Township of Langley for sponsorship of First Thursday community arts events.
