PAPER WORKS, opening reception FRIDAY, MAY 12, 6-9 pm
Works on paper hold a central place in the practices of contemporary artists. In this two-person exhibition, Erik Olson and Winnie Truong demonstrate the expressive potential of printmaking and drawing techniques.
Truong uses the delicate nature of colored pencil to marry the beautiful with the grotesque. The subtlety of her medium emphasizes the strangeness of her surreal figuration.
Olson has created rich, dark, etchings with unique oil pastel additions that reflect the gusto of his paint handling techniques.
Winnie Truong graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Ontario College of Art and Design (2010). Her work has been included in exhibitions in Canada, the United States, and Europe, including “Material Girls” which was recently presented at Contemporary Calgary.
Born and raised in Calgary, Erik Olson earned a Bachelor’s degree from Emily Carr University of Art + Design (2007) and completed subsequent painting studies at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf (2014/15). His work has been the subject of solo exhibitions across Canada and internationally in the United States and Europe.
