CELEBRATORY RECEPTION: Thursday May 23, 5:00-9:00 pm, with Durational Performance "Strip Sandwich" by Miss Lyndsay Ladobruk and Screening of Colin Campbell’s 6-part "The Woman from Malibu" series.
Representing a range of media including photography, video, painting and performance, this group exhibition peels away at societal veneers that dictate acceptable body types to present alternative images that transgress boundaries and concepts of beauty, behaviour and the grotesque.
Claude Cahun was a photographer, essayist and performer whose work incorporated Surrealist tropes, blurring boundaries and challenging notions of gender and sexuality.
Colin Campbell was a graduate of the School of Art and went on to become one of Canada’s premier video artists, exploiting the medium’s penchant to position oneself as the "other."
Miss Lyndsay Ladobruk is a former studnet of the School of Art and is one of the founding members and Artistic Director of the Central Canadian Center for Performance.
Dominique Rey is a painter, a photographer, a video, and a performance artist. Her work has been exhibited internationally. She is a graduate and faculty member of the School of Art.
Janet Werner is a painter whose work focuses on the fictional portrait as a vehicle to explore notions of subjectivity and desire. Born and raised in Winnipeg, she is Associate Professor of painting at Concordia University. Her work has been exhibited widely across Canada and abroad.
