CKG is thrilled to announce our first solo exhibition for Calgary glass artist extraordinaire Phillilp Bandura. Known in the local art community as a founding member of the now disbanded Bee Kingdom, Phillip has since graduated with his MFA from AUArts and has been busy attending residencies, and exhibiting his work internationally in Germany, Greece, South Korea and the United States.
Continually pushing the limits of the material, the exhibition will include pieces from various ongoing series - including his “Is Glass Queer Or Is It Just Me”, “Shiny Shit” and “Wildland Rocket” series.
Phillip’s glass work is as exuberant as his personality - his glass work creates a literal window into his identity. “I was taught to blow glass by working with the materials’ odd, strange, and magical qualities. I see the quality of glass as queer, a mirror of my own queerness”.
Phillip’s work was recently selected for the Corning Museum of Glass New Glass Review 44 - self described as an exhibition-in-print dedicated to profiling 100 of the most timely, innovative projects in glass produced in the last year. Additionally, Phillip was appointed as a new board member for the Glass Art Society, an international organization dedicated to the global glass community.
