In the Western world, there is a rise of interest in traditional modes of knowledge, ranging from pre-colonial traditions, rituals from the “Old World” witchcraft, paganism, and other (often) pre-Christian rituals. These give people a sense of place in the world and assist in reclaiming identity or culture. Things once dismissed as antiquated, mere stories, and pagan traditions are being given new life by new practitioners as well as elders passing on their knowledge. The artists in Ritual & Lore explore the place of tradition and folk knowledge in their daily lives and identities, incorporating rituals, craft, and stories into their creative practices.
