We are pleased to announce our next exhibition, fabric, highlighting works by acclaimed textile artists Trace Yeomans, Dorothy Grant, and Sherri Dick.
This exhibition brings together some of the most talented textile artists from Haida Gwaii today—women whose craft has been honed over decades of dedication and perseverance. Despite a history of their work being marginalized, these artists have continued to create with resilience, serving as vital knowledge keepers who pass down Haida cultural values to the next generation. Through their artistry, they assert the importance of their contributions to society and demonstrate the enduring strength of the Haida people in the face of cultural erasure.
Textile art today holds a vital place in the broader conversation about Indigenous identity and cultural revitalization. As contemporary expressions of heritage, these works challenge historical narratives and reassert Indigenous sovereignty through the preservation and innovation of traditional techniques. In an age of rapid globalization, the practice of textile arts offers a meaningful space for communities to assert their cultural continuity and resilience. For the Haida artists in fabric, their work not only honours ancestral knowledge, but also reimagines it for the future, bridging generations and ensuring that their stories, values, and voices continue to resonate.
