Kostuik Gallery is pleased to present the first solo exhibition of Calgary-based artist Michelle Atkinson. The artist takes elements of data visualization, recycling and a tendency for materiality utilizing light and texture as foundational elements in her sculptural works. She sources extreme historical weather data and completely re-interprets a grid seismograph into protozoic shapes that act as building blocks for her sculptural cloud-form compositions. By hand crushing picture frame glass to glitter-like sand and creating layers of colored acrylic resins, mirror and spray paint, she takes disastrous stories (forest fires/atmospheric rivers) and camouflages them in beautiful configurations.
