Arts Commons Presents welcomes Kelly Jacqueline Smith’s "Spun of Gold", an ongoing installation and studio project in the Lightbox Studio that looks to unravel the numerous stories and symbolisms formed within our histories and literacies that have bound women with storytelling, witchcraft, magic, and destiny.
Taking advantage of the Lightbox Studio’s physicality, Smith will treat the space like a theatrical stage, diorama, or window that peers into another world, using paint, dramatic lighting, and found objects that render a scenic installation that will resemble the home and hearth of a supposed witch and storyteller as imagined during times of classic mythology.
Engaging with common narratives found in western folklore and fairy tales, artist and writer Kelly Jacqueline Smith will revive and reimagine these stories through the eyes - and by the tongue - of the mythical witch.
