In her artist statement, Kristina reflects on “The Laws of One's Own Nature” – the idea of looking into oneself and how we navigate through one’s life. “I want to express thoughts and images that can be enlightening or hindering. It can be messages that we see in our day-to-day lives, subconscious thoughts, and dreams.
Looking at nature from a semi-realistic concept, I am working on a different perception of what a landscape can be. These paintings are subjects that I have been exploring regarding breaking down nature in a more simplistic form. The use of flat, bold, and colorful paint does not necessarily represent the true form of that object. With my sculptures, I add similar ideas of nature and spiritual concepts into each piece.”
Kristina Miko is a visual artist residing in Red Deer, AB as a practicing early-career artist. She continues building up her technical skills in both 2D and 3D, utilizing what she has learned at Red Deer Polytechnic to make more effective, and impactful artworks. She loves creating landscape paintings, mixed media sculptures, and other artworks with a twist that may or may not have multiple hidden meanings in each work of art.
