Tony Luciani Home and Studio Tour
Loch Gallery is delighted to feature a video tour of Durham-based artist Tony Luciani's home/studio. In itself a work of art, this converted 1920's church building blurs the boundary between home and studio, and is a great source of inspiration for the artist.
In defining his work, Luciani prefers to be placed in a tradition of realism which is interpretive rather than photographic. Rather than achieving a full, realistic likeness, Luciani captures the feeling he gets from a mental visualization of his subject. Mood and feeling are more important than subject matter itself, so that each painting, in a sense, becomes a self-portrait.
"I want the viewer to be drawn into the work, to be captured by the detail, and step closer to discover what is in it," says Luciani. "At the same time, however, I hope people will look beyond that aspect to find a deeper, more significant meaning."
