Opening Reception: May 18 at 7 pm
The Comox Valley Art Gallery will present a dialogue of three bodies of collaborative and individual work by Victoria-based artists Lindsay Katsitsakatste Delaronde and Valerie Salez. These three projects, In Defiance, In the Shadow of Our Own Dust, and Touching Earth Bodies, explore the power of self-representation, ceremony, and engaging bodies in the land. The central focus of the exhibition, Touching Earth Bodies, is a collective exploration of Vancouver Island’s rainforest and the history of, and ongoing, deforestation practices and impacts.
On June 2nd, 5–9 pm, the gallery will stay open for extended hours. During this time the artists will facilitate a community Make Art Project Workshop where the artists will be teaching the community how to make cornhusk dolls. Everyone is invited. At 7:15 the artists will present new performance work in situ at the gallery.
In Defiance, by artist/collaborator Lindsay Delaronde, was originally presented at the University of Victoria Legacy Art Galleries, October 8, 2016 – January 7, 2017.
