'Weng Slip' Collectiv, 2019

In celebration of our good friend, Gwen Lips, who left us far too soon on October 9, 2017

This exhibit will journal a brief journey of 9 artists, co-creating for 7 days, and communing together in friendship and celebration of the life of a fellow artist whose fearless journey inspired and connected us in so many ways but most importantly through our art.

The 9 of us immersed ourselves in an amazing space, the Tin Poppy Retreat in the Larch Hills of BC, and set up a space for Gwen to rest with us for a time. While there we created, shared, danced, ate and drank and above all else celebrated and remembered the special moments we each had with this amazing woman. During the day we were confined, literally, by the hoards of hungry mozzies constantly buzzing beyond the doors and windows of the large, open ‘studio’ space. Fortunately, this presented us with a fantastic opportunity to create without any outside distractions and we quickly got on with our various creative endeavors.

Through this proposed exhibit, we hope to once again honour the memory of our friend, Gwen, and to share our incredible and moving experience at the Tin Poppy. Our hope is that the art and writings throughout this exhibit will help us all remember and appreciate the fearless, no-nonsense, woman we all grew to love and admire.
