Edmonton visual artist Wenda Salomons is pleased to present a solo exhibition of pinhole photography, “where i live”, exploring Edmonton’s historic neighbourhoods. Salomons will be in attendance on Sunday, July 8 from 2-4 p.m.
Using primarily pinhole cameras for the last 20 years, Salomons explores photography’s ability to capture the abstract rather than the directly representational. As a result, her images suggest rather than document her subject matter. Infused with emotion and a dream-like state, they bewilder.
“where i live” is comprised of a selection of photographs taken in Edmonton’s oldest neighbourhoods. Salomons investigates these urban residential settings, paying particular attention to the relationships between the maturing architecture and surrounding flora. Her intent is to showcase these neighbourhoods in all their complexity and variety, emphasizing the richly diverse shapes and forms present.
“where i live” opens during Historic Edmonton Week at the Gallery at Milner in downtown Edmonton on July 6, 2012. The exhibition runs until July 31 with the artist in attendance on Sunday, July 8 from 2-4 pm.
This exhibition is made possible through the generous support of the Edmonton Arts Council.
