Please join me in welcoming veteran Calgary journalist, writer and editor Shelley Boettcher as the new editor of Galleries West. She will share duties with Paul Gessell through the end of the year with a view to taking the reins on her own in January.
You should still send your news to the editor@gallerieswest.ca address which continues to be monitored closely.
A new writer for Galleries West this issue is Becky Rynor who covered the major retrospective of Marisol in Montreal. From Vancouver, Yani Kong writes about the Ron Terada exhibition at Catriona Jeffries Gallery, while Shazia Hafiz Ramji reviews the Sarindar Dhaliwal show at the Art Gallery of Ontario.
The Shorts feature this issue examines Revealing Clothes at the Art Gallery of Alberta in Edmonton; Sobey finalist Kablusiak's show at the National Gallery; Russia's Pussy Riot collective at the Musée d’art contemporain de Montreal; British-Kenyan ceramic artist Dame Magdalene Odundo at The Gardiner Museum in Toronto; and Jennifer Hornyak is showing at Wallace Galleries in Calgary.
Our upcoming lineup in November includes stories on Liz Magor, Tim Gardner, Jean Paul Riopelle, David Spriggs and David Thauberger.
And Paul Gessell is busy wrangling our annual art books issue for early December. By the way, now is a good time to share any particularly good art books you've encountered that you think might interest other readers. Just send a note with details and a comment to editor@gallerieswest.ca.
Thank you for your continued support.
Cheers,
CONTRIBUTORS THIS ISSUE: Yani Kong; Shazia Hafiz Ramji; Becky Rynor
