Madrona Gallery is pleased to announce Shuvinai Ashoona's upcoming solo exhibition. The gallery will be hosting an opening reception on November 3rd from 1-4 PM. We hope that you are able to join us in celebrating this internationally acclaimed artist's work. Shuvinai Ashoona was born in 1961 in Cape Dorset, NU. She has been instrumental in reshaping contemporary Inuit art. Her drawings break from tradition and challenge stereotypes by incorporating references to the past and present alongside her own highly imaginative and individual subject matter. Over the last decade, she has become the leading voice in contemporary Inuit art. Internationally, she is recognized as one of Canada’s premier artists.
Her work has appeared in Art Basel, the 18th Biennale of Sydney, National Gallery of Canada, the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art, The Art Gallery of Ontario, The McMichael Collection of Canadian Art and several other museums around the globe. In 2017 Shuvinai Ashoona was elected into the Royal Canadian Academy of the Arts.
