Group of 7 -Dulwich, UK
Line-up outside on closing day.
Worth noting this attendance...Canada needs to put its best foot forward more often, people are listening and looking.
The Group of Seven at the Dulwich Picture Gallery in London
The survey of the Group of Seven organized by the Dulwich Picture Gallery in London closes on January 8. From all accounts, the reception has been rapturous. Sales of catalogues and trinkets have been so brisk that the Dulwich leaned on gallery shops in Canada to send anything they could spare.
My nephew Ned has just sent me the attached photo of the queue at the entrance. He took this an hour after the 11:00 a.m. open today. He says that it extends to the road, and continues inside.
The 1991 survey of Canadian landscape painting at the Barbican and the 2005 survey of David Milne’s watercolours and drypoints at the British Museum didn’t attract anything close to this sort of attention.
What did the Dulwich put into its secret sauce?
